Do you have loads of t-shirts with sentimental value that should be thrown away but never make it into that pile? Perhaps your child has moved on from band or swimming but cannot let go of the season shirts, or maybe a loved one has passed away leaving behind garments that are too precious to donate. If this describes your closet or basement bins, this is the class for you!
Quilter extraordinaire Karen Landau will teach a class in three sessions on how to make a t-shirt quilt! In each session, Karen will demonstrate and teach participants how to perform a step in the process. She will make sure that everyone is successful in learning the skills required to complete that step on their own before the next session. Quilts can be made with six to fifteen shirts; participants should to bring shirts and scissors to the first session.
Session #1: Friday, February 23 @ 6:30 – 8:00. Goals of this session are to determine the quilt pattern, cut the backs off the shirts, and iron the backing onto two of the shirts. Participants will complete the backing-ironing on their own.
Session #2: Friday, March 1 @ 6:30 – 8:00. Goals of this session are to cut the coordinating material strips, cut shirts to the right size, and begin sewing. Participants will continue or complete the sewing on their own.
Session #3: Friday, March 8 @ 6:30-8:00. The goal of this session is to baste together the three layers of the quilt. Participants will determine the method they will use to finish the quilt (hire a quilter, quilt it by hand, or tie the layers).
Session #4: Friday, March 15 @ 6:30-8:00. This class will occur if needed due to inclement weather cancellation or other delays.
Enjoy the camaraderie that centuries of women have enjoyed in quilting circles with friends by signing up for this fun class. The class is limited to ten participants and will include a small fee to pay for materials. Questions can be directed to the church office.
