Our Worship Arts Lay Reader Team is a great way for you to serve the church. Lay Readers help lead worship by reading the scripture of the day aloud to the congregation before the sermon.
This simple service is vitally important. The apostle Paul instructed his protege Timothy to "devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching." (I Timothy 4:13). In reading scripture aloud, we are being faithful to these instructions.
When you read scripture aloud to the gathered congregation, we all experience God's word in a different way than if we were reading it silently and alone. You help us hear nuances, emphases, and inflections that we would never have noticed before.
You will also benefit from serving as a Lay Reader. Reading God's word publicly is a declaration of faith that strengthens your spirit. By preparing to read, you will learn to approach the scriptures with a deeper reverence and appreciation.
We invite you to join the Lay Reader team today! For more information or to sign up, please contact the church office.
"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." (Hebrews 4:12)
