Madeira-Silverwood Presbyterian Church has scheduled dinner services for guests at City Gospel Mission throughout 2025. We will serve on the last Tuesday of each month, except for December, on Thursday the 25th. Serving dinner to people experiencing homelessness is an essential act of compassion and support for several reasons:
1. Basic Human Need: "For I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink…" (Matthew 25:35, NIV). This verse emphasizes the importance of providing for those in need as a fundamental aspect of caring for others.
2. Community Support: "Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ." (Galatians 6:2, ESV). Serving those in need fosters community and mutual support, aligning with the call to help one another.
3. Building Relationships: "And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works." (Hebrews 10:24, ESV) - Serving together creates opportunities to connect and build relationships that can inspire and uplift, fostering a sense of community.
4. Awareness and Advocacy: "Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed" (Proverbs 31:8, NLT). This verse encourages us to advocate for the marginalized and vulnerable in our communities, drawing attention to their struggles.
