Christian Discipleship
“Follow me” Jesus said, “And you will learn to fish for people.”

Christian Discipleship
The Greek word for disciple means “learner”. The first disciples lived with Jesus and learned from Him as He taught them about the Kingdom of Heaven in the first century A.D. The ministry of Christian Discipleship at MSPC, aspires to continue in Jesus Christ’s ministry of discipleship, cultivating a learning church, taught by Jesus Christ, through his Word and Spirit in the 21st Century, A.D. .

Scriptures and Theology
Our goal for all those attending MSPC is to be biblically literate, understanding the underlying themes of the Bible, while engaging in both personal and group studies of the scriptures. Together we will develop a firm grasp of essential Christian and Reformed beliefs such as the “Glory and Majesty of God”, “The Trinity”, “The Nature of Jesus Christ as Both Human and Divine”, and “Justification by Faith”.

Prayer and Spiritual Disciplines
Upon the foundations of Scripture and theology, MSPC attendees receive regular instruction on the practice of prayer and essential spiritual disciplines such as meditation, silence and solitude.

Exposure to Great Christian Authors
From St. Augustine in the 4th century to C.S. Lewis in the 20th, Christians have written profound books that engage both God and the issues of the day. Someone observed that the early Christians in the Roman Empire won the day because “they out-thought the Pagans.” Healthy Christians learn by exposure to great authors to help enable them to “think with their minds, feel with their hearts and act with their hands and feet”.

Challenges
Everyone participating at MSPC will have opportunities to consider present challenges to the Christians faith, and how to give a thoughtful response. Past classes in this area include, The Case for Faith by Lee Strobel, Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis and the Reason for God by Tim Keller.
